Make the Call Campaign!
"Make the call" is a campaign to educate and encourage community members to take a simple, positive step towards curbing adolescent alcohol use. The easiest thing that we can do is contact our local law enforcement when we know of or see a party where underage drinking is happening.
Alcohol and youth don't mix! Each year, in the state of Texas, approximately 900 youths are injured or killed as a result of accidents related to alcohol. Texas was number one in percentage of alcohol related traffic deaths among 15-20 year olds. Some long term effects include: Brain cell death, heart disease, cancer of the mouth or stomach, liver disease, and weak bones. Alcohol is a factor in youth violence, sexual assault, robberies and suicides. Texas has Zero Tolerance policies on underage drinking and driving. It is illegal for a minor to drive while having ANY detectable amount of alcohol in the minor's system.
Volunteers are needed to increase community awareness of the "Make the call" campaign. Volunteers can distribute brochures, inform friends, family, neighbors, social groups, churches, and co-workers about the campaign. Word of mouth is the best advertisement. Participate in your local prevention partnership. Each community has an active group that meet on a monthly basis to discuss options to reduce youth access to alcohol. If you are interested in helping with the campaign, would like brochures to display, or further information on the prevention partnerships in your area, please contact:
