  Pregnant & Post Partum Intervention

Problem:    Within Bell and Coryell Counties, young women, 13 and up are experiencing problems with alcohol and drug use while pregnant or parenting babies and young children.

This May Include:

    Pregnant and post partum woman/adolescents involved with TDPRS, Child Protective Division

   Pregnant and post partum women /adolescents identified as having substance abuse problems while participating in services such as WIC, prenatal care, pediatric clinics and hospitals, domestic violence shelters, mental health and workforce centers, and TANF offices.

    Eleven percent of the total population in the area lives below poverty, 28% have no health insurance.

   Sexually transmitted diseases are more prevalent in our area - gonorrhea is twice as prevalent and Chlamydia is almost four times as prevalent as the state average.

     Infant deaths here are at 7.4 per 100, as compared to the state rate of 5.7 per 1000.

    Personal income is about 20% lower here than the national state average.

Solution:

Through the Generations program CTCADA   counselors serve  these young woman, offering them assessment, treatment, referral to other services and education to help them live healthier lives for themselves and their children.

 Generations increases resilience and reduces risk factors for behavioral, emotional, academic, and social problems. It builds on protective factors by:

    Improving family relationships

    Improving parenting skills

    Increasing social and life skills
